Mérce is a news, analysis and opinion portal which is a vital institution of Hungarian egalitarian and critical thought, and a crucial gap filler in the Hungarian media scene.
We are a venue for unions, civic leaders, environmentalists, grassroots organizations and academics, while we maintain a dedicated team of 20 journalists and editors, who not only write exceptional opinion pieces, reports and news stories, but also engage in mentoring the next generation of independent journalists.
Our goal is to stand up for people who are oppressed, exploited or discriminated against, and we provide a platform to all those who take on the fight against systemic injustice.
We are almost exclusively funded by small donor donations. Mérce was one of the first Hungarian media outlets to adopt this model of financing, and we have been successfully providing critical and socially meaningful narratives as a news portal since 2017.
