Sam has worked as a reporter at the Charleston Daily Mail (West Virginia), South Florida Sun-Sentinel, and Energy Intelligence, and as a sub-editor at The Statesman (Kolkata).

He taught journalism as an assistant professor at the American University of Central Asia (Bishkek). He is co-founder, co-director and deputy editor at Dublin Inquirer, as well as a reporter.
