Bartek Sabela is Polish reporter, photographer and activist.

As an author of books, he debuted in 2013 with the book ‘Morze (może) wróci’. This story about Uzbekistan and the dying Aral Sea was awarded the award ‘Bursztynowy Motyl’ and the Magellan Award. In October 2015, he published his second book ‘All the grains of sand’ about Western Sahara, the last African colony, awarded with the award by the ‘Afryka Inaczej Foundation’ and nominated for the ‘Newsweek’. He published two more books, a report about Zambian and also a report about intensive animal farming.

Sabela has also written articles about the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Algeria, Bhutan, Mauritania, Niger and Poland for magazines such as ‘Duży Format’, ‘Kontynenty’, ‘Podróże’ and ‘Pismo. Magazyn Opinii’.

UPPER SILESIA - Mine water from the coal mines of Upper Silesia in Poland due to a Greenpeace report released in March 2023 is considered to be the main source of the salt of the Oder River. The salt in a freshwater river which contributed decisively to the bloom of a toxic algae causing massive fish kill in summer 2022 in Polish and German sections oft he river. How could it have come to this?
