ROME – FADA Collective is addressing media distrust and limited access to reliable information in underserved areas of Italy by launching a new section on the website that highlights their REPORT-CONNECT-IMPACT approach.

This initiative will engage local communities and foster their participation in our projects. By showcasing FADA's work impact and methodology, we aim to strengthen community involvement and create lasting, meaningful journalism.

Fada Collective is tackling a pressing issue in Italy’s media landscape: widespread distrust in the news and limited access to reliable, locally relevant information, particularly in “news deserts” areas. Our solution is to launch a new section on FADA’s website that showcases our unique REPORT-CONNECT-IMPACT approach through concrete examples of past and ongoing projects. This section will not only explain how we engage local communities, but also invite them to participate in our initiatives, helping to bring our work to their towns, districts and cities.

The target group for this project includes residents in underserved communities, grassroots movements, and local associations—potentially reaching tens of thousands of individuals who are eager for more accessible and meaningful journalism.

In addition to increasing community engagement, this new section will serve as a powerful fundraising tool. By better showcasing our impact and methodology, we can attract new supporters, increase our fundraising capabilities (by integrating and strengthening the existing fundraising strategy of FADA Collective) and therefore secure the resources needed to scale our work.

Unlike traditional media, FADA combines investigative reporting with direct community involvement, creating lasting impact while offering a transparent, participatory model that resonates with both local audiences and potential donors.

Goals of the project

To enhance the visibility and impact of FADA’s work, we will create a dedicated section on our website that showcases the full lifecycle of our projects, from investigative reporting to tangible community impact. This new hub will feature multimedia content, such as videos, photos, maps, and interactive graphics, to illustrate our REPORT-CONNECT-IMPACT model and make our work more accessible and engaging. It will highlight real-world case studies, including our cross-border investigation into waste trafficking, to demonstrate how FADA uncovers illegal activities, brings accountability, and fosters local action.

The section will also spotlight the grassroots movements FADA’s work inspires, such as the creation of RESTA, a local environmental group launched after our waste trafficking investigation. It will showcase how our findings led to arrests, asset seizures, and the mobilization of communities in Southern Italy, addressing both environmental and public health issues. Through this hub, we aim to encourage further community involvement by offering interactive tools, such as forums, feedback mechanisms, and opportunities for visitors to engage in discussions and take part in initiatives inspired by FADA’s work. By empowering local audiences to contribute to ongoing projects, we hope to foster a sense of ownership and inspire them to initiate their own change-making efforts.
