PRISTINA - From 1999 to 2008, nine years after the Kosovo War, Kosovo was run by UNMIK (the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo).

After being heavily criticised for failing to achieve many of its objectives in 2008, most of UNMIK's responsibilities were transferred to EULEX (the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo). EULEX's investigative and judicial units were tasked with addressing nine years of financial scandals involving high-level UNMIK officials.
