Nezavisne Novine is a well established media organisation in print, online and electronic media in Bosnia & Herzegovina. It is an independent private media company with transparent ownership structure and no involvement from state or state-affiliated entities, nor of senior political actors or their close relatives.
Nezavisne Novine has a track record of commitment to professional and ethical standards of journalism. Their editors are part of the Journalist Press Council where they invest great effort to raise journalistic and ethical standards in print journalism across the country.
The main part of the company is the Nezavisne Newspaper, which was established in December 1995, right after the war, with the aim to contribute to improving the public discourse in the country and provide a counter narrative to the nationalistic and hateful rhetoric which was disseminated in the whole country at the time.
Nezavisne also has a well established internet portal, which is one of the most visited in the country. Its editorial policy is to follow the lead from the Nezavisne Newspaper, but adjusted to the fact that it is an online media with the need of much more quickly updating the stories in line with practice of any typical news internet portal.
In the last 30 years, Nezavisne novine was, and still is loyal to the truth and facts, and does not succumb to tabloid journalism tendencies. As such, the media organisation is one of the most read newspapers and one of the most visited news online sites in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Nezavisne also owns two radio stations NES and POP FM, which serve young and progressive audiences in the whole region. NES was one of the first Bosnian radio station which started broadcasting music from artists of all nationalities and all ex-Yougoslavian countries right after the war. This was not common at the time due to the fresh wounds from the war and still prevalent hatred on all sides.
