LIES (Italy) stands for Laboratorio dell'inchiesta economica e sociale — The Laboratory for Economic and Social Investigations.
Since 2011, Lies has been planning and implementing social enquiry opportunities to disseminate knowledge and practices that question reality, pushing it towards paths of change.
It has organised investigation workshops open to citizens and in schools, investigations of some Padua neighborhoods, seminars, conferences, film festivals (Working Title Film Festival, since 2016 in Vicenza, Veneto) and books presentations. In 2019, Lies set up Cidv - Centro di documentazione ed inchiesta sulla criminalità organizzata in Veneto (Centre for Documentation and Investigation on Organised Crime in Veneto), established in a space available to the municipality of Dolo, in the province of Padua.
In 2023 Lies founded the online magazine VeZ - Veneto ecologia Z Generation, formed by a young editorial team and targeting a young audience, disseminating information on environmental issues through its website and social networks. In 2023, it also promoted the establishment of the Osservatorio civico sul Pnrr in Veneto (Civic Observatory on the NRRP in Veneto) to promote civic monitoring and informed and transparent public debate around the Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza (National Recovery and Resilience Plan), financed by Next Generation EU funds.
Lies has about 20 members: journalists, social researchers, filmmakers, photographers and activists.
