Dis:orient is an independent collective of journalists, academics and campaigners committed to providing critical and nuanced reporting on West Asia and North Africa (WANA) in a global context.

Their work is guided by postcolonial and feminist perspectives, and they are strongly committed to addressing marginalised voices. Unlike mainstream narratives, which often reduce WANA-related topics to security concerns, migration discourse, or one-dimensional geopolitical conflicts, they emphasise complexity, historical depth, and voices from the region itself. By doing so, they challenge the Eurocentric and colonial biases that persist in the German-speaking media landscape.

At dis:orient, they have already taken on the challenge of fostering open and critical journalism on Israel and Palestine. Through our reporting, we regularly publish well-researched articles and analyses on Palestine, Israel, and wider WANA-related issues. Their work has consistently received significant engagement and positive feedback from our readership, highlighting a strong demand for perspectives beyond mainstream framing. Over the years, they have built valuable connections with experts, journalists, and activists in the region, ensuring that local voices rather than external assumptions inform their reporting.
