Samuel Nacar is a documentary photographer and filmmaker from Barcelona.

His work focuses on migration, social conflict, and the decline of rural and industrial communities. His projects often explore the long-term effects of emigration on the places people leave behind, as well as the migration routes themselves—viewed as spaces of resistance marked by unsafe conditions and systemic neglect.

With a strong focus on the Mediterranean region, his work explores the area’s evolving social, economic and environmental landscape. He began his career in 2015 as an independent journalist covering the refugee crisis in Lesvos, and has since spent over a decade documenting Europe’s border regimes and the human rights issues surrounding them.

He has contributed to publications such as Ruido Photo and Revista 5W as a freelance photojournalist. His work has won several awards, including the 2025 World Press Photo.

He is currently focusing on the impact of depopulation across Spain.
