Nico Schoofs is a Belgian journalist for De Tijd.

Nico Schoofs (1977) studied German philology at the VUB and development cooperation at the ULB. He worked for Vacature from June 2004 until the end of 2010. Since then he has been an editor at De Morgen. He has reported from China, Mexico, Turkey, Kenya, Russia, Romania, Thailand, etc., mainly on migration and socio-economic issues.

In 2009, he won the European Young Journalist Award for a report on the economic consequences of Romania's accession to the EU. The year before, in 2008, he won the Flemish North-South Press Award for a report on the journey of a sports shoe from the Chinese supplier to the shelves of the final destination Colruyt (the same report was nominated for the Citibank Journalistic Excellence Award 2009 and the Dexia Press Awards 2008). In 2011, he won the Citibank Journalistic Excellence Award for the report 'The Belgian-Brazilian construction mafia' (supported by the FPD), which he produced with Filip Michiels for Vacature.
