Merel Overloop (°1997) is a Belgian freelance journalist.

After studying history and anthropology, she immersed herself in investigative journalism. She focuses on in-depth journalistic projects, alongside other work in the socio-cultural sector.

Merel likes telling positive stories or stories from alternative perspectives. In doing so, she prefers to collaborate with other journalists and artists, exploring different formats and covering a variety of topics. Solidarity, diversity and sustainability are key overarching themes to her work.

Her first investigative project was nominated for the Belfius Press Prize in 2023. More publications followed, including for Knack and MO*.
