Maurizio Franco is a freelance reporter based in Rome.

He covers labour exploitation and housing rights. He has contributed to various national and international publications, including L'Espresso, FQ Millennium, Slate, Der Spiegel, IrpiMedia, La Repubblica, El Pais and The Caravan Magazine. He won the Roberto Morrione Television Journalism Award in its fifth and eighth editions.

He is a member of the Permanent Journalism Centre (Centro di Giornalismo Permanente), a collective of freelance journalists in Italy. He is also a co-author of books on the Islamic State and borderlands.
