Marta Kasztelan is a documentary filmmaker and journalist based in Warsaw.
Marta Kasztelan is a documentary filmmaker and journalist covering gender, women's rights, radical groups and environmental issues in Southeast Asia and Europe. Obsessed with what lurks in the proverbial shadows, she has spent the last eight years bringing under-the-radar stories to global news outlets, including The Guardian, Foreign Policy, LA Times, POLITICO and Al Jazeera.
Her first documentary, which followed a young woman's journey into the heart of Poland's far right movement, was published by The Guardian in 2015. She has since spearheaded documentary film projects for Al Jazeera, VICE News, YouTube Originals, Singapore's flagship broadcaster CNA and for non-governmental organisations around the world.
In 2018 she co-founded Turren, a Cambodia-based production house known for its grit and originality, where she moonlights as a line producer.
In her previous professional life, she was involved in human rights litigation in India and researched corporate rights abuses for London-based Business & Human Rights Resource Centre.
Languages are her superpower. She is bilingual in English and Polish, fluent in French, with very strong German and proficient Khmer.
After a decade in Cambodia, she will be relocating to Poland. Though she will continue reporting on human rights issues in Southeast Asia.
