Loes Debuysere is a Belgian freelance journalist whose path to investigative reporting began in academia.

With a background in Middle Eastern Studies and a PhD in Conflict and Development Studies, she spent over a decade researching conflict and social change in places such as Tunisia, Lebanon, Iraq, Eastern Congo, and Rwanda.
