Klára Votavová is a Czech freelance journalist and a think-tanker.
Klára is a think tanker and a freelance journalist, interested primarily in industry transformations, just transition, regional development, political economy and inequalities within Europe.
She started her journalistic career in 2020, covering workplace conditions in Czech and Polish Amazon for the news server Voxpot.cz. Following that, she concluded two journalistic series: Work at the periphery - dealing with the transformation of industry and employment opportunities in the Czech peripheral regions - and Million dollar developers, underfunded villages. There, she focused on the unequal economic relations between villages in the Prague suburbs and housing developers. Klára has also been active as a political commentator for Deník N, Alarm and Aktuálně news servers. For an interview with the anthropologist Ivan Kalmar on racism against Eastern Europeans, she was shortlisted for the 2022 Czech Journalism Prize. Since 2024, Klára has been cooperating with the newly established Page Not Found server, focusing on slow journalistic formats.
Since 2023, Klára has also worked as a research fellow for the Prague based EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy. There, she focuses primarily on EU industrial policies and just transition.
