Jose Miguel Calatayud is a freelance journalist and writer based in Berlin. He focuses focusing on feature writing and investigative journalism.
During 2024, he researched corporate influence on public affairs and started publishing The Guide to Corporate Influence in Europe, and as a recipient of a European Journalism Fellowship by the Free University Berlin, he developed an investigative methodology called Follow the Governance. Until mid-2022, Jose was a project director at Arena for Journalism in Europe, where he coordinated the Cities for Rent investigation, which won the Innovation Award at the European Press Prize in 2022.
Earlier, starting in 2009, Jose was a foreign correspondent successively based in London, Nairobi, Istanbul and Barcelona. He has reported from more than 20 countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and his work has appeared in Foreign Policy Magazine, Al Jazeera, El País, New Statesman, The Independent, Internazionale, Deutsche Welle, Radio France Internationale, and Agence France-Presse, among others.
