Irene Baños Ruiz is a Spanish multimedia journalist who specialises in environmental and climate change topics.
She collaborates with international media outlets and institutions to encourage positive communication and outreach regarding environmental and climate issues.
Irene is the author of the book Ecoansias (Ariel, 2020) and co-author of the books Accionistas del Cambio (BoldLetters, 2022) and Che cosa è la bioeconomia (Edizioni Ambiente, 2019). She co-hosts the video podcast Estamos Muy Verdes, featuring efforts to reduce impacts and adapt to the planetary crisis.
From 2016 to 2022, she was a regular contributor to DW's environment department, covering four UN Climate Summits (COPs) during this period. From 2021 to 2025, she worked on developing a communication strategy for Media and Information Literacy and environmental journalism in Latin America with DW Akademie.
