Splann!

GUINGAMP – The primary target audience consists of French-speaking and Breton-speaking residents of Brittany. While the focus is on local environmental and social issues, the project has the potential to generate national impact through collaboration with media partners.

The organisation produces long-form written investigations—a format that demands time and concentration from readers. For this reason, the project aims to develop more video formats to increase the impact of its journalism, reach new audiences, and grow its online community of readers and donors.

Splann! is a Brittany-based, non-profit, investigative media outlet that operates online. It is committed to independent, public-interest journalism that serves citizens and contributes to positive change in areas such as ecological transition, democracy, and human rights—including the rights of women and minorities.

The outlet takes a long-term approach to reporting, aiming to help audiences gain a deeper understanding of issues affecting a peripheral region dominated by the agri-food industry and tourism. Its editorial priorities include agricultural and industrial pollution, civil liberties, and integrity violations.

Goals (Expected) of the Project

  • To increase the impact of published investigations through complementary video formats;
  • To reach new audiences—particularly younger people who prefer video and social media content;
  • To grow the community of readers, followers, and supporters across Brittany;
  • To engage more Breton speakers, contributing to the visibility and survival of this endangered language.

By expanding the reach and readership of its work, the outlet aims to strengthen democratic participation in Brittany. Its investigative reports provide information not currently available in the region’s mainstream, privately funded press, which often limits access to matters of public interest. This commitment to transparency and independent journalism is at the core of Splann!'s mission.
