The Global Investigative Journalism Network published an online chapter on investigating human trafficking, written by two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Martha Mendoza.

In June 2021 GIJN published Human Trafficking: Investigating an Evil Hidden in Plain Sight by Martha Mendoza, a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and part of the Associated Press team that exposed the use of slave labor in the Thai seafood industry. It is a chapter from GIJN's forthcoming Reporter’s Guide to Investigating Organized Crime.

In the chapter, Mendoza addresses who to speak with, lists some interesting case studies, provides tips and tools, and warns reporters to be mindful of the safety of victims of human trafficking.

These tips might be useful for journalists interested in applying for a grant from Journalismfund.eu's Modern Slavery Unveiled programme. For other resources and inspiration on investigating modern slavery, check our Modern Slavery Unveiled resources page.
