LEIPZIG – At the European Media Freedom Conference 2016 in early October the European Magazine Media Association (EMMA) and the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF) launched a Call for Action from Europe’s media sector to improve press freedom across the continent.
Freedom of expression, though guaranteed in all European constitutions, is under pressure in a lot of countries. The ECPMF and Journalismfund.eu launch a second call for applications for their FoX grant, which gives journalists who know of a breach of freedom of expression the time and money to document it.
BAKU - On 1 September 2015, investigative journalist Khadija Ismayilova, who has written numerous hard-hitting stories on corruption in Azerbaijan, was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison by the Azerbaijani authorities.
